Please tell us your iOS version and what you were doing when the problem happened — it saves a round trip.

Do not send us business cards, contact details, or screenshots containing other people's information. We cannot read your data and we do not want a copy of it.

Requirements

Privacy

Where do my cards go?

Nowhere. Recognition runs on your iPhone using Apple's on-device Vision and Foundation Models, so a card never has to leave the device to be read. What you save lives in your own storage — this iPhone and your own iCloud. We keep no copy, and nothing gives us a way to read yours.

Does the person who gave me the card find out?

No. The app sends nothing to them and registers nothing about them anywhere. This stays true unless you add them to iOS Contacts, at which point other apps that read your address book can see the number.

Do I need to create an account?

There is no account. Open the app and it works.

Caller ID

Names aren't appearing when a saved number calls

iOS keeps this switch outside the app, and the app cannot turn it on for you:

Settings › Apps › Phone › Call Blocking & Identification › Private Card Case

The app's Settings › Caller ID section shows whether iOS currently has it on. If it says "off in iOS Settings," the switch above is the reason. After turning it on, tap Refresh now in the app.

iOS Contacts

What happens when I turn on "Add to iOS Contacts"?

That person is copied into your iOS address book, which means every app you have granted contacts access can see them. Messaging apps commonly use this to suggest friends. This is why the switch is off until you turn it on. Nothing is copied on its own, and even the bulk action is something you press yourself.

People added this way are placed in a list called CardCase in iOS Contacts, so you can see the full scope outside the app and remove them in one go.

What happens when I turn it off?

The copy in iOS Contacts is deleted. The contact stays in this app, untouched.

Can I add everyone at once?

Yes — Settings › iOS Contacts › Add everyone to iOS Contacts. There is a matching Remove everyone. You can also set new contacts to be added automatically from that same screen; it is off by default.

Subscription

What does it cost?

New subscribers start with a free trial, then choose monthly or yearly. In the United States that is $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year (as of September 2026). Prices in other regions follow the App Store's pricing for your country, and the purchase screen always shows the actual trial length and price.

Why does an app with no server charge a subscription?

Because there is no server, there is nothing to charge for storage. The subscription pays for keeping up with each year's iOS release, tracking the Vision and Foundation Models APIs, improving recognition accuracy, and adding new regions. There are no ads, and the subscription is the only revenue.

What stops working if I let it lapse?

Only new scans and edits. Viewing, search, calling, caller ID, iCloud sync, and export all keep working. Your data is never locked inside the app.

How do I cancel or change plans?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us:

Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions

I paid but the app says I'm not subscribed

Tap Settings › Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account that made the purchase. Refunds are handled by Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

How do I get my contacts out?

Settings › Export & backup writes a standard vCard file that any other contacts app can read, plus an optional encrypted backup. This keeps working after a subscription ends.

How do I delete everything?

Settings › Delete everything. This clears them from this iPhone and from your iCloud. If any contacts were copied to iOS Contacts, the app asks whether to delete those copies too.

To also reset your settings and return the app to how it was on first install, use Reset app at the very bottom of Settings. That one never touches iOS Contacts — anyone you added there stays until you remove them in the Contacts app.

Sync isn't working between my devices

Both devices must be signed in to the same iCloud account with iCloud Drive on. The app's Settings › Sync section reports the current state.

Sync is part of the subscription. When it ends, everything stays on this device only once the app restarts, and the status reads “Local only · subscription ended.” Switching to another app and back doesn't change it. Nothing already saved is removed, and syncing resumes when the app restarts after you subscribe again — to start right away, close CardCase in the App Switcher and open it again.

Recognition

Which cards can it read?

Cards are read in 24 languages — Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese (Traditional and Cantonese), German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Romanian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Ukrainian, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Malay. Cards from other countries are read as English — Latin script still reads fine, and emails, phone numbers and URLs are picked up everywhere. Recognition adapts to the region a card comes from, because job titles, departments, legal forms, and phone conventions differ by country.

A card was read incorrectly

Every field is editable before and after saving, and the original card image is kept alongside the text so you can check it later. If a particular kind of card is consistently misread, tell us the country and layout — please describe it rather than sending the card itself.
